I'll Never Be...

This post is inspired by this Carrie Bradshaw quote: "I know I’ll never be the girl with the perfect hair, or be able to wear white without spilling anything on it, but that’s okay.” Someone in the blog world asked the simple question "Why do you blog?", and it got me thinking. Do I wish I were as cool as Carrie Bradshaw? That's a hell yes. But, I didn't ever begin to blog because of her. I am not that eloquent. My posts are sporadic. My passion for writing doesn't run that deep. To be honest I prefer writing poetry but who wants to read a blog about someones poetry? I blog to escape, heal, and record my feelings. Thus, a tailspin went on in my brain and I realized some things that I will never be. First, I will never be the outfit of the day girl, I will never have a spotless or perfect home (and I am one hundred percent ok with that), I will never not worry about my purchases, I will never have it all together, and I will never look like I did in high school. Also, I'll never be the wife who cooks dinner for her husband every night, the decorator who has everything perfectly matching, or the girl who looks perfectly put together at all times. It's taken me nearly thirty years to realize that I am who I am and I'm ok with that. I'm not perfect.
I will however, always be the girl who puts Christ first, the woman that loves with all of her heart, the giver of her family, and the girl who tries her best to be happy in any given situation. All I can ask for is His mercy and grace in all that I do and am.

Are you struggling with whom you might never become?

would you rather: 10/13/2011

sex and the city is undeniably my favorite show to have ever been on television. even though i grew up with this sometimes racy show as a thirteen year old i appreciate it as i grow older. i remember being in college when the show came to an end. arguably i did not like the sixth and final season. however, i know that the series had to come to an end. can you imagine if the show were still on air now? yes, i know many of you could but really think about that. as i recall, when miranda got pregnant i thought "oh great, is this gonna turn into a show where they all get married & have children?". nope, it sure didn't. it was as close to 'scripted reality' as any sitcom could come. i often fantasize about the what-if's and wonder what the show would be like now. i can picture desperate housewives meets the real housewives of new york. sex and the city is so much better! if carrie had stuck with aidan and married him, would she have had a child of her own? would she have ever worked at vogue? i am glad that she chose john big. throughout the shows lifetime we had the two 'loves of carrie's life'; big and aidan. for carrie, i believe big was the right choice. for me, aidan was a total dreamboat. oh em gee. i love him!

today i want YOU to comment. would you rather marry aidan or big?
do you believe carrie made the right choice?

trade-places-with tuesday

let's pretend that today we can trade places with one person. my person is sarah jessica parker. i can remember watching Girls Just Wanna Have Fun and embracing my ridiculously curly hair. the look of the 80's was awesome. so on this terrific tuesday i am posting about the one and only sarah jessica parker aka carrie bradshaw.

i love her voice, tongue lip lick thingy, hair, figure, character, everything. mostly i like what she represents. she is a working mother, a fashion icon, a philanthropist, and a woman with a giving heart.

so today i give both casual & dressy sarah jessica parker.

given the chance who would you trade places with?

sex & the city homage

But the most exciting, challenging and significant relationship of all is the one you have with yourself. And if you can find someone to love the you you love, well, that's just fabulous!

Maybe some women aren't meant to be tamed. Maybe they just need to run free til they find someone just as wild to run with them

hands down the most influential television show of my life. i lived for hbo on sunday nights. when i was younger the show was something i secretively indulged in, for fear my parents would find out. at any age a show with the word sex in the title is a no-no. i remember dreaming of having just a glimmer of carrie in my adult life. i admired her independence, her free will, her support for her friends and most of all her non-judgemental attitude. i loved that she smoked cigarettes and wasn't 'perfect'. she was a real woman. carrie said it best "I will never be the woman with the perfect hair, who can wear white and not spill on it.”

ever thine. ever mine. ever ours.
as i lay here once again in bed with the flu i celebrate this day as an homage to carrie bradshaw and also to my younger sister caroline who is my living carrie bradshaw doll.
