don't act your age, act your shoe size

brittany murphy

sometimes i have often compared myself to the character molly gunn from the movie uptown girls. i remember when this movie came out. i was actually a nanny myself and the youngest girl of the children i cared for watched the movie with me. her name is lauren. lauren was ray and i was molly. looking back now it's funny to think that a child taught me how to act my age and i helped teach her that it's ok to let loose and be free. lauren is now 15 and i am 27, i have been watching her since she was four. i still act like a child with her and have a blast being around her.

Ray: I'm not going anywhere, especially with you.
Molly Gunn: Oh, yes you are. We are going to sit in giant teacups and spin round and round in circles until we puke.
Ray: Are you on crack?
Molly Gunn: We're gonna have fun.

what's the point in being so serious? be silly, have fun, live without regrets. love the you that you are. embrace and love yourself, you're all you've got.

grownups never stay friends with kids... i don't see any grownups around here.

education frustration

today i am sadly very hopeless. texas is cutting public education costs which will likely result in a loss of almost 22 positions in my district alone. i cannot express my anger, frustration, and overall feeling of confusion with this news. this is education we are talking about, PUBLIC education. teachers are already not making nearly as much as we should but i am a teacher because i have a passion for this, it's not my career, it's my calling. already a dear friend of mine who is also a public educator was informed she will not be getting another contract. how can we as tax payers afford to aide other countries yet we cannot educate our own? my classroom is already overflowing with to many students. i cannot imagine a room with 40 students and one teacher. i believe that not using our 'rainy day' account will just make our students strangers and teachers 'jokers' who are unable to maintain relationships with our given students.

here's an idea... why not get rid of our substitute system & provide each classroom teacher with their own assistant teacher, that way when the teacher is out the assistant can fill in and will actually have knowledge of classroom expectations and learning curriculum. i haven't researched if that is cost efficient or not.

education is worth it, right?

right?

only the good die young

kyle andrew silvas
march 10, 1982-july 23, 2007
windchime i made above his grave
kyle & his daddy

l♥ve is stronger than death even though it can't stop death from happening, but no matter how hard death tries it can't separate people from l♥ve. it can't take away our memories either. In the end, life is stronger than death

march 10, 2011 would be kyle's 29th birthday. kyle was my college boyfriend and i want to keep the details of our love to myself and cherish the memories. i still write on his facebook wall, and occasionally will send him text messages. his life was cut short in the summer of 2007. i will never forget that day and it will forever haunt me. kyle suffered from bi-polar disorder and he made a horrible mistake; he ended his life. i don't know if i really believe that everything happens for a reason but i can say that through the pain, guilt, denial, and grief that i have gone through i am blessed to have the painful experiences. this blog is to celebrate kyle's life & to never forget him. he was a sigma nu at texas state university with big goals. he was the life of every party, the go-to guy, and his laugh was very infectious. whenever there is a thunderstorm i know it is kyle making it rain for me.

happy birthday my sweet angel.

boerne outdoor academy

last weekend i was able to take part in one of the coolest programs our district offers, 'boa'. it is basically camp but with classes. the great thing is the classes are all taught outside and pertain to the outdoors. this year i taught about 90 sixth graders the craft and legend of creating rain sticks. in order to get into character i named myself rain goddess dryden. i explained to the students that we were creating the rain sticks to get 'flooded in', of course, and stay at camp all week long. we had zero cell phone service, no television, no radio, and it was wonderful. it was amazing to watch so many of the children come alive in the natural element. the classes offered were water studies, canoeing & fishing, geocaching, a three mile hike, and every evening skits were performed and night hikes to place. i must say that the overall experience was draining but rewarding. i have even had some of the sixth graders call me rain goddess dryden since we have returned.

gorgeous
the hippie chicks (every cabin chose a theme & decorated the cabin)
i wish classes could be taught outside at least once a month!
