classroom supplies

let me start off this post by saying that this has been a tough summer full of spending. we bought a house, had an expensive accident with our precious bella bell, and had a few occurances that are personal and costly.

i remember telling my students last year that there in fact was NOT a teacher fairy who 'came to the classroom to drop off head-sets, mouse pads, grading pens, paper, computer discs, or any of the other items found in my classroom'. i can still see their sweet faces saying/thinking 'what?! where does this stuff come from?' i told them that they came from me, fundraisers, and the recycling program. soon after many more students brought in electronics to donate to our recycling program. it was sweet. children have the most innocent and kind hearts that i have ever bared witness to.

our pto is amazing and very giving.
sometimes there are little things that the students need and i feel selfish asking pto for the money to purchase them. i am more than happy to spend a few extra bucks on items i know will benefit the students. this year will be different because as many of the nation knows, teachers are not getting paid what some would argue is enough. no raises, no spending money, nada.

the little ones are constantly chewing/playing with/breaking things all of the time. not on purpose of course, but accidents happen.

here are some fun pictures of items on my shopping list thus far:

used everyday and sometimes caps are not put back on

yes it's true, teachers are responsible for cleaning/disenfecting their own classroom

headphones

construction paper is used all of the time, so is poster board, for our 'teachers of the week' projects

best disinfectant spray, plus the students enjoy the smell

you would be shocked, maybe, at the amount of tissues used
these get lost or dry out all the time
as mentioned before, best grading pen
my sixth grade class is responsible for the morning news and yearbook. we only have one digital camera. i am going to have to purchase at least one more, if not two.

i would love to have stability balls instead of chairs. i hope to have a couple at least for the older students.

all of you fabulous teachers out there, what do you need for your classroom?

fill in the blank friday: 8/5/2011

linking up with lauren at the little things we do for today's post.

1) my go to outfit for a dress-up occasion is: hidden in this mess of a house somewhere! ha ha, no it would be a dress that's not long but not short and fun heels paired with equally fun accessories.

2) this week has been: quick! i got a lot of boxes unpacked, made a few diy items and now it's friday!

3) when it's dinnertime and i'm feeling lazy i usually eat: spinach salad with feta cheese.

4) my favorite pair of shoes are: not going to be limited to one pair, i love all my shoes! lately though the pair i wear pretty much daily are my tye-died toms.

5) a random item that i own that is completely unnecessary, but i could never part with is: old cards from various occasions.

6) my favorite person is: my beloved grandmother, dicey.

7) if i were going to write my own blank it would say: if you had one super power, what would it be?

one of my diy's from this week: make-up brush holders

bella bell update

warning: some photos might be too graphic

we had our final check-up yesterday and i am delighted to report that miss. bella bell doesn't need anymore surgeries. yes, her eye is a little wonky but the doctor says with due time it will slowly come down.

i think she looks beautiful. i am happy she is alive, peppy, and full of life. she acts like nothing happened and that nothing is wrong with her. i can report that she is still a feisty little one playing with her big sister daisy mae.
i was told that the above picture was offensive. it really pissed me off. this is what MY dog looks like, she is a survivor, and i love her. i refuse to not feature or show photos of her.

everyone knows its hot as a hell and down in the hill country we are under a heat advisory until 10p.m. tonight. i did unpack a box today, yay me, thanks eclectically e for the motivation.

here's a photo i took for your viewing pleasure:
it's our headboard! excuse the mess but like i said, i am working on organizing this beautiful home.

miscellany monday: 8/1/2011

just another manic monday... linking up with carissa at lowercase letters.

1) rewind to may...
i decided that i would (because i had the time) transform my body back to how it used to look as my summer job.
i did give myself as much of that as i could would.
failed.
now i will be going back to school bigger than i actually was.
how did this happen? answer... i let it.

true life: i gained 8lbs over the summer

2) i cannot believe it's the first of august. inservice begins next week!

 3) we have lived in this house for almost three weeks. i have nothing better to do than to unpack everything.
the kitchen, dining room, and entry way are filled with boxes.
i keep saying i will 'do it tomorrow'.
i need to get it together, grrrrr.

4) if i were a celebrity i would be the most boring one  in the world.
here's an honest run down of my day (typical)
6:00-8:00 a.m.: wake-up, drink coffee, kiss husband goodbye
8:00-6:00 p.m.: lay in bed and watch mindless t.v./ read blogs/ think about working out
6:00 -8:00 p.m.: talk to hubby about his day. watch celebrity gossip shows
then bed.
productive day, catherine!

someone motivate me, please.
but really, how do you force pull yourself out of a funk?
